Who We Are
The Watermen's Museum tells the story of lives along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. It demonstrates the role that Chesapeake Bay watermen played in the shaping of our nation through a historical display of crafts and methods of their trade. Its mission is:
- To preserve the heritage of the watermen of the Chesapeake Bay
- To interpret their culture and their contribution to the region
- To provide and support educational opportunities
- To preserve and enhance the environment of the Chesapeake Bay
The Museum offers living history interpretation and activities, presentations of historical artifacts, and hands-on exploration of the environment. Adult education programs include lectures, videos and demonstrations scheduled periodically by the museum. The Museum also has a wooden boat-building program. The boat building crew meets on on Saturdays and Mondays. Check the museum schedule for upcoming events.
