Who We Are
American Sexual Health Association promotes the sexual health of individuals, families and communities. Get the facts about STDs/STIs and sexual health. On the web site you can learn more about specific STDs/STIs, tips for reducing risk, and ways to talk with health care providers and partners.
Many STD or STIs (sexually transmitted infections) have no signs or symptoms in the majority of people infected. Or they have mild signs that can be easily overlooked. The only way to know if you have an STI is to get tested. Your healthcare provider can test for these leading common STIs: chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, herpes, HPV, syphilis and trichomoniasis. Getting tested can be quick and easy. Depending on what you are being tested for, your provider may take a blood sample, a swab, or ask you to pee in a cup. The website has a table that gives you an idea of what to expect when being tested for a specific infection.
You can find a testing site near you by going to the CDC National HIV and STD Testing Resources website.
