Who We Are
The primary purpose of Virginia's Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security is to ensure the safety of the Virginia's citizens, visitors and businesses. The office promotes safety and security through public awareness, education, training, emergency response, disaster preparedness, prevention, policy development, enforcement, response, recovery and reentry.
The Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security is comprised of 11 state agencies, including: Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Commonwealth's Attorneys' Services Council, Virginia Department of Corrections, Department of Criminal Justice Services, Department of Emergency Management, Department of Fire Programs, Department of Forensic Science, Department of Juvenile Justice, Department of Military Affairs, Virginia Parole Board and Virginia State Police.
