Who We Are
Old Dominion Eye Foundation (ODEF) provides quality human eye tissue for sight restoration and conservation through the promotion of eye donor awareness and the care of donors, recipients and their families. ODEF is accredited through the Eye Bank Association of America.
ODEF coordinates events from the time of a donor's death to the transplantation of corneal or scleral tissue. Maintains a laboratory to receive and process donated eye tissue and to distribute the tissue to the appropriate transplant surgeon. Cooperates and coordinates activities with Eye Banks of the Eye Bank Association of American (EBAA) for emergency needs anywhere in the nation.
In addition to providing corneal tissue for transplant the Eye Foundation supports many research and educational projects. Donated eye tissue is used to find cures for blinding disorders such as Glaucoma, Diabetes related eye disorders, Retinitis Pigmentosa, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and more. We also conduct educational programs for the public – working to register the citizens of the Commonwealth to become organ, eye and tissue donors.
Old Dominion Eye Bank (ODEB) serves the Commonwealth of Virginia with offices in Abingdon, Annandale, Front Royal, Richmond and Roanoke.
