Transition Services for Students With Disabilities
Programs that provide support for children with disabilities who are moving from one kind of program setting or service provision system to another. The common transition points include transitions from health services to education or vice versa, from preschool to kindergarten, from elementary school to middle school, from secondary school to adult life and from more restrictive to less restrictive settings.

Programs that are designed to increase public awareness of the measures that people can take to ensure their safety while riding bicycles. Bicycle safety programs provide information about traffic laws as they apply to bicyclists and warnings regarding the types of violations and other riding behaviors that most frequently result in accidents. Also included are programs that address the specific needs of people who use their bicycles to commute to work, ride to school, or get to other destinations.

Transportation, Medicaid
Programs, paid for by Medicaid, that provide transportation for medical appointments, trips from and between hospitals, to nursing homes or other special-care centers or for other non-emergency medical needs for individuals who, because of income, disability or physical condition, are unable to use other means of local transportation. Non-emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) service providers are able to transport riders who require a wheelchair lift-equipped vehicle with appropriate protective restraints or a van that is designed for gurney/stretcher transportation, or that has other types of features to meet safety needs. Some providers also offer limited transportation to grocery stores and food banks.

Long-distance transportation provided by public providers is generally offered between two separate metropolitan areas or rural areas of equivalent distance to a separate metropolitan area. Service may also operate in an interurban network or to a specific destination on a fixed route. Service is usually scheduled, but may operate at fixed intervals. Service may be one-way, open-ended, or round-trip. Unlimited trips may be available using a pass.

Programs that provide flexibly scheduled transportation for community residents who are unable to use the fixed-route public transportation system. The services may be used by the general public or limited to special populations such as older adults and individuals with a disability.

Programs that make arrangements for people to travel together in private automobiles and/or vans during busy commuting hours or which provide a central telephone number for people to use to identify others who are commuting to and from the same general area with whom they might share. Vehicle options include vanpools and carpools. Vanpools may be publicly or employer-operated or organized by an individual who owns or leases a van; the drivers are generally participating as commuters themselves, so are not paid. Also includes programs that provide other commuter services such as emergency commuter transportation, parking information, and more.

Travel Training for Older Adults and People With Disabilities
Programs that provide comprehensive, intensive instruction that teaches older adults or individuals with disabilities how to travel independently and safely using accessible public transportation. Skills include boarding the correct bus or subway, recognizing and disembarking at the correct destination, following directions, recognizing and avoiding dangerous situations and obstacles, handling unexpected situations such as re-routed buses or subways or getting lost, using specialized equipment or devices, and recognizing the need for assistance and requesting help from appropriate sources.

Vehicle Adaptation Services
Programs that pay for or provide the labor and/or equipment to adapt vehicles owned by people with disabilities allowing them to operate the vehicles or ride in them as passengers. Adaptations can include ramps or wheelchair lifts; primary systems such as modified seats or steering, signaling, gear shift and braking controls; and/or secondary systems such as car door openers, car door reachers, gas cap openers, seating restraints, specially designed rear view mirrors and other accessories.
